Why can't you just use a letterbox instead
of IDentislot?
Crime prevention considerations!
A letterbox will never serve as a deterrent
to bogus offenders, during extensive research
carried out by the Leeds Distraction Burglary
Task Force, bogus offenders were asked "what
deters you from committing offences" - no
reference was made to a letterbox. IDentislot
provides a constant visual deterrent and sends
out a very positive message to callers that they
are aware of bogus offenders and have the correct
tools and information to deal effectively and
safely with a stranger at their door.
Practical considerations!
The vast majority of letterbox units have a
spring loaded plate, which allows information
in, but not back out. It is imperative that people
can return ID cards after assessment WITHOUT HAVING
TO OPEN THEIR DOOR. The position of many letterbox
units are not suitable for older people to use
as an aid to receive ID Cards. Many letterbox
units have obstructions fitted to the rear,
- Mail cage
- Draft proofing brushes
- Security guards
Note: Many bogus offenders use the letterbox
as a prop to aid them in identifying suitable
victims.
Does IDentislot identify that the householder
is vulnerable?
Absolutely not, bogus offenders are extremely
professional at identifying and targeting potential
victims, ie, property type, poor garden maintenance,
curtains etc, aids and adaptations, all suggest
that an elderly or vulnerable person occupies
a property. IDentislot supports and underpins
that regardless of age or disability, each individual
has the education, tools and confidence to safely
deal with a strange caller.
How do you know an ID Card is genuine?
You don't! Just by possessing an ID Card, and
physically looking at it does not ensure its authentic.
Many bogus offenders carry and use fake ID Cards
as a prop to trick their victims into believing
the offender is genuine. IDentislot allows a householder
to ask for, receive, assess and return an ID Card
without ever opening their door. This provides
a safe and secure environment in which to assess
a stranger and carry out the appropriate checks
(via our crime prevention pack, door step code
and useful telephone numbers) With IDentislot,
Time, safety and control is on the householder's
side and if for any reason they don't wish to
open their door or permit entry to the stranger,
the ID Card can be easily and safely returned
through IDentislot.
Are there any problems with communicating
if the door remains closed?
It is very important that any communication at
the door between a stranger caller and a householder,
is kept to the absolute minimum. The fact is that
if the bogus offender is given the opportunity
to control the conversation, they will manipulate
the householder and gain entry. For people with,
hearing, speech or sight impairments - IDentislot
have a range of helpful aids to ensure that these
individuals can carry out the same process of
identification as any other person. It is again
very important that the door remains closed at
all times, because the caller may not be aware
of any impairment until the door has been opened.
IDentislot also provide an innovative intercom
system where required.
Can IDentislot be fitted to UPVC doors?
YES, IDentislot can be fitted in factory conditions
and retrospectively to all pre fitted doors, eg.
- UPVC Panel doors
- Security Doors
- Metal Doors
- Composite Doors
- Timber Doors
