Toolkit for Practitioners
The toolkit has been developed to help practitioners consider all the objectives when developing an effective and sustainable strategy in combating bogus caller crime.
The toolkit consists of:
- A support document to help you develop a distraction burglary strategy
The document will include statistical evidence and detailed information about the crime, offenders and the impact on individuals and the wider community. An assessment of the local area will be carried out to include community issues and a detailed account of housing stock.
- Help assessing the needs of the end user in your area
Working with practitioners our crime prevention installers will assess individual needs during the installation process.
- Advice on stakeholder protocols
IDentislot CIC will provide advice regarding partnership working and effective stakeholder protocols. Stakeholder roles and responsibilities need to be included in the strategy.
- Community Presentations to encourage interaction and reaction
Community presentations encourage community engagement and give tenants/residents the opportunity to see the project first hand and discuss any personal issues. This process allows ownership of the project to remain with the community.
- A range of hardware and technology to combat the crime
Dependent on the stakeholders’ strategic aims and the individual needs of tenants/residents, a range of hardware solutions are available, supported where necessary by community alarm technology.
- An education/ information programme to empower end users
Each recipient will be encouraged to use the newly installed hardware under a no pressure friendly but informative role play. They will also receive Crime prevention literature, useful telephone numbers and a door step protocol. This process will empower the end user, provide increased confidence and reduce their fear of crime.
- Training and Education for Professionals
Practitioner training days are available and are delivered in partnership with the Northern Housing Consortium. (see products and services for more details)
- Recommendations for Evaluation
It is vital that each project is evaluated, the process will be agreed with stakeholders, and recommendations will be set and actioned within the focus group.
- Post project support to ensure the continuation of the initiative
Sustainable projects need to be worked at, it is extremely important to include long term targets to measure success or areas of concern, these will be decided by stakeholders.
- Advice on marketing with subsided promotional posters and leaflets
Working with the Northern Housing Consortium, if the community alarm provider is Tunstall provision for promotional literature will be available.
